Humans have been harvesting the bounty of the seas for well over 40,000 years. The protein in fish is highly digestible, and many fish are rich in essential fatty acids.

The following discourse focuses on animal seafood, setting aside seaweed, which has already been described. The predicament now with seafood as a dietary choice was created by the long-standing practice of men treating the oceans as a giant toilet, compounded by the rapacious and wasteful practices of the fishing industry.
