Life
Commentary
The song of Life is melody striving for harmony.
Life capitalized signifies all beings or the universal principles that apply to all Life.
Music is sonic expression which is only comprehensible as an entangled process. The analogy of music highlights that living is a process of “striving.”
A song is a brief musical composition that may be sung. The patterned notes of a song are its melody.
A song may be analogized to a life, which is a self-created pattern of individual expression.
Harmony enlivens melody.
Living is the process of creating one’s own melody. Harmonious living is being enthused and feeling up to the challenges one sets oneself. Harmonious living also means adapting to circumstances.
Success is defined by beĩng present and giving one’s best in endeavor. Living in harmony enlivens vitality and joy.
As an ambience for Life, Nature is fractal.
Life is the reason for existence. There is no reason for Nature without its witness. Living is witnessing.
A fractal is self-similar patterning amid distinct designs. Fractal in form and function, Nature pervasively exhibits a diversity of similar patterns and processes.
Nature being fractal also means that existence is holistically integrated. A fractal is only perceived as such because it has multiple pieces which can be appreciated as self-similar within a larger whole. That is the nature of a pattern: multiple components which are construed fitting together, such as a song.
Consider the processes that comprise the flow of existence, beginning with perception. For Nature to be perceived it must be comprehensible. What we sense but cannot comprehend is mentally discarded as noise.
For a fractal to be recognized requires mentally correlating fragments into patterns: apprehending constituents and their relations amid a whole. Vision and hearing are fractal perceptual processes.
Mentation is a fractal function. Memory is associative: based on similarity and contrast. In memory are levels of details within entire events: fractal resolutions. Traversal of inner space and time (psychospace) has fractal dimensions, with the mind deciding whether recalled memories or imagined scenarios are perceived as distant (distal) or close (proximal).
Dobe is living.
Dobe, pronounced “due-bee,” is the acronym for doing & beĩng, the 2 modes of living. Whereas doing is behavior, beĩng is the sheer awareness of being alive. The tilde ĩ disambiguates beĩng from other uses of being (such as a life form being a being).
“Dobe is living” emphasizes that the process of living constantly alternates between doing and beĩng.
Doing is for the bliss of beĩng.
We act (“doing”) to reap satisfaction (“the bliss of beĩng”).
Whereas interactivity entertains, nonengagement satisfies. This is the inyō of dobe.
The mind is engaged when making fun. Paradoxically, what we want from fun is to relax.
The fun of doing comes home during moments of beĩng, when we momentarily transcend mental engagement for the natural bliss of beĩng.
It is in those reflective moments of beĩng, not while our attention is engaged in doing, that we savor experience. The split-second interplay of doing/beĩng is the primal ouroboros of living (“the inyō of dobe”).
