The American heartland was deluged this year. Whereas drought will bake more intensely the dry regions of the world, extreme rains will become commoner where rainfall is the norm.
A warmer atmosphere holds more water vapor. Norwegian climatologist Gunnar Myhre et al: “the most intense precipitation events observed today are likely to almost double in occurrence for each degree (Centigrade) of further global warming.”
G. Myhre et al, “Frequency of extreme precipitation increases extensively with event rareness under global warming,” Scientific Reports (5 November 2019).
“The most extreme rains of today are set to become more commonplace,” Nature (7 November 2019).
